"Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun."Eccl11:7
Oh how I love God who created the pleasant warm sun. Cherish every ray! It is a good thing to give thanks for all these things.
For it is a loving God who created them for us. He wants us to walk in light, not darkness.
As we look at the verse that Solomon wrote, it is not a coincidence that he says the light is sweet first.. Solomon led a long life, part of it good and part bad. In the very next verse he talks about remembering the days of darkness for there is many of them. In the Bible these great writers often used examples in nature to get their point across. Without the sunlight, all living things world die. It is because of light that all thing grow. So it is in the Christian’s life, if we walk with God we are in the light and can grow. If we walk away from God we are not growing, but dying. We are in darkness.
Looking at this chapter in Ecclesiastes we see Solomon writing a commentary on his life and on the vanity of not walking in the light. He is repenting of the many wasted years. He concludes in giving advice to "put away evil from thy flesh." His father David had extolled the God of heaven and had prayed " Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us." Ps. 4:6 But Solomon now sees he walked many years in darkness.
. As a medical missionary we are striving to walk with the Lord every day. Do we sometimes let what we need to accomplish get in the way of staying constantly in the light of the sweet presence of the Lord God. Can we learn from Solomon? He started out with all the good intentions of always walking in the light of Gods countenance and then just got busy and lost his strength. He was so anxious to build up his kingdom that he married strange heathen women. He did not realize his lack of time with God and the temptation of these women would bring him to ruin. I think too, now that He is old the sunshine feels so good on His old body that he can relate it to his spiritual walk with God. "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleans us from all sin." 1 John 1:7 He is crying out for something he lost for so many years, something that feels so good, a clean forgiven heart .He wants us to know that being in this light, is sweet!
Somewhere I heard that ten minutes of the first rays of the morning sunlight helped to heal our bodies. Isn't it amazing that God who made us, made a sun that not only can keep us alive, but teaches us so many lessons about Him. I can see that it is those first moments of the morning that I spend with Him that makes my day pleasant and sweet. It is the fellowship with him that brings me into that sweet light. And it is so just like Him to make it where the sun’s rays are the most beneficial in the early morning! Lord my prayer today is "Thank you for the light of your life and the example of the sun.It reminds us that when we start our walk in the early morning adventures with you, we avoid the pain of darkness. Because we have already applied the healing powers of your life to our soul by walking in the light!
